Beth Ng

Exercise Scientist, PT, L1 CrossFit Trainer

Small in stature but mighty in power, Beth has a wealth of sporting and exercise knowledge and experience. As a qualified Exercise Scientist and experienced Personal Trainer who is pursuing a Masters in High Performance Sport, Beth draws on her background in athletics and other sports to bring energy and intensity to her coaching and personal training. Whether you’re starting out in your fitness journey or looking for your next big PB, it’s great to have Beth in your corner; supporting, motivating and challenging you to be your absolute best.

Isaac Hobson

L1 CrossFit Trainer

Isaac began his CrossFit journey at the age of 14, and quickly developed an appreciation for the community spirit that surrounds CrossFit. Transitioning into coaching at 17, Isaac his passionate about guiding others on their fitness journey and seeing them achieve their goals. As a detail-oriented coach, Isaac loves to immerse himself in the intricacies of every movement. Beyond the gym, he loves coffee, being outdoors and his dog. 

Merryn Sheriff

Remedial Massage Therapist, Recovery Manager

Merryn has been a remedial massage therapist for over 11 years, and is also an accredited CrossFit Level 2 and CrossFit Kids Trainer. Having played sport most of her life (and incurring her fair share of injuries), as well as experiencing postural issues from desk work, repetitive activities, and caring for kids (it’s hard work on the bod!), Merryn understands the impact our hectic lifestyles have on us, and sees massage as a means to give back to our bodies; balancing out the demands that work, sport, study, family and life in general place on it.

When working out herself or coaching others, Merryn draws on her remedial massage background to ensure good functional form and muscular health.

As Hive Active’s Recovery Manager, Merryn is your go-to person for any recovery tech equipment and services support.

Inshan Sheriff

Training Manager, L2 CrossFit Trainer

As a die-hard sports fan, Inshan caught the CrossFit bug 10+ years ago, and loved it so much he took over Hive Active in 2016. Inshan’s mission is to bring together our local community and the best of fitness professionals and coaches to create a training environment built on community spirit and love of quality fitness. With this in mind, while you might find Inshan coaching the occasional class, you’ll more than likely find him working behind the scenes to ensure the hum in the Hive is a hearty thrum.

Kate Ballantyne

L1 CrossFit Trainer, PT, Wellness Coach

Helping people unlock their full wellness potential is the aspect Kate loves most about being a Coach and personal trainer. Kate takes a wholistic approach to training, which involves eating nourishing, real food (most of the time) and engaging in functional exercise. As a Coach, Kate likes the unpredictability and variety of WODs, as well as sharing in the sense of community that is an integral part of Hive Active. If you’re looking for real food recipe inspirational and need to borrow a recipe book – Kate is your “go to” resource. 

Craig Preston

Training Programmer

Born and raised in sunny Australia, Craig is a true lover of all things outdoors, training and coaching. Growing up Craig used sports to boost his confidence and grew into an accomplished functional fitness competitor. His dedication to performance training earned him two consecutive years of competing at the Reebok CrossFit Games Pacific Regional competition.

It was this experience as a competitor that paved the way for Craig to realise his passion for preparing other athletes as they navigate their competition journey. Whilst still a very keen and capable athlete himself, Craig’s focus is now helping others achieve their goals.

Additionally, Craig is a magician with movement progression programming for the more technical exercises. So, if you’re someone who’s looking to get your first [insert movement here], Craig’s undoubtedly the guy to get you there methodically and safely. 

Isaac Sheriff

L1 CrossFit Trainer

Don’t be fooled by his age, Isaac has a wealth of CrossFit experience (10 years) and enjoys all facets of CrossFit training. Having recently added coaching to his list of passions, Isaac enjoys sharing his skill breadth and functional movement knowledge, and giving you that little boost of encouragement as you workout to ensure you get that extra rep/cal/metre.

Having grown up playing and competing in a wide variety of sports, Isaac is also up for a pre/post workout chat on all things sport related; from water polo to rowing, athletics to rugby.

Luke Hewitt

L1 CrossFit Trainer

A health and fitness fanatic since the age of 18, and current Dad of 2, Luke became hooked on CrossFit after watching a documentary back in 2010 called “Every Second Counts”. As a qualified CrossFit Level 1 Trainer, Luke’s coaching style draws on not just his certifications but also personal growth and experience gained under the direction of sporting and CrossFit coaches, as well as gym owners.

Luke loves seeing people achieve their goals; whether it be losing weight, making a heavy lift or learning a new skill.
