Our talented team of coaches and personal trainers work across age groups and fitness levels from kids through to retirees; beginners through to athletes, to identify your fitness goals and help you reach them. When you join Hive Active you don’t just join a gym, you join a community; a team of coaches, personal trainers, and members that support you in your quest for a healthy, active lifestyle.

Hive Active’s team of coaches, personal trainers, and exercise physiologists are pretty awesome (even if we do say so ourselves). Each team member brings their own wealth of experience and personality to the gym, and draws on these to educate, support and encourage you to reach your health and fitness potential. Once you’re there we’ll help you maintain that level, and move on to achieve your next fitness goal.

Our health and fitness professionals are also supported by our operations crew (who also happen to be health and fitness practitioners). Our operations team helps around the gym and behind the scenes with all those little and not so little things that help to make working out at Hive Active a safe, happy and fun experience.

A Hive of Team and Community Spirit

Finding that little bit of extra energy and mental conviction to push yourself to be fitter, faster, stronger, and healthier can sometimes seem almost too hard. The great thing about Hive Active is that you not only have the support and encouragement from our fitness professionals, but our members are also super supportive too. As your fellow teammates, our members will encourage, support and push you (for those competitive guys and gals amongst us) to go that little bit further each and everyday. Our team is also there to support you when you’re just having one of those days and you’re doing well just to get to the gym (we’ve all been there).

Hive Active is also big on helping the community outside of our gym, by supporting local sporting clubs and schools through sponsorships and donations, including Lindfield Junior Rugby Club, Lindfield Learning Village, and Lindfield Public School.

A Hive of Activity

Hive Active offers a range of fitness options to entice and challenge you. These include:

  • Specialty Strength, Conditioning, Endurance, Core and Yoga sessions

We also participate in a number of inter-gym CrossFit challenges, and put together teams to participate in other non-gym sporting events such as Spartan Races. And because we’re a social bunch, we often get together for fun that doesn’t involve sweat and muscle burn; BBQs, the occasional lawn bowls afternoon and catch up nights often pop up in our social calendar.

Child play area

Sometimes it’s impossible to leave the house without a child in tow. Don’t let that keep you away, Hive Active has an enclosed Kids area where they can play while you workout. You’re happiest when you’re fit and healthy, so don’t let parenthood hold you back from achieving your wellness goals.

Inshan Sheriff

Owner/Manager
As a die-hard sports fan, Inshan caught the CrossFit bug 8+ years ago, and loved it so much he took over Hive Active in 2016. Inshan’s mission is to bring together our local community and the best of fitness professionals and coaches to create a training environment built on community spirit and love of quality fitness. With this in mind, while you might find Inshan coaching the occasional class, you’ll more than likely find him working behind the scenes to ensure the hum in the Hive is a hearty thrum.

Jess Wye

Gymnastics Coach, Assistant Kids and Teens Coach, aspiring Physiotherapist
Coming from a background of 10 years of competitive gymnastics, taking human movement to the next level has always been a passion for Jess. When she discovered CrossFit at Hive Active in early 2019, she was instantly drawn to the challenge, variety and community- particularly how inclusive the program is for all kinds of people, from non-exercisers beginning their fitness journey to ex-elite athletes. Jess’ experiences in coaching baby gymnastics to competitive gymnastics squads, studying Physiotherapy at ACU, and volunteering at her church working with a variety of young people have set her up for her role in the Hive Active Kids and Teens programs. She is excited to share her knowledge and passions with the Hive community!

Merryn (Mez) Sheriff

CrossFit Kids Coach & Behind the Scenes Coordinator
Having grown up on a healthy dose of athletics, cross country, hockey and touch football, Merryn switched to the sport of CrossFit over 8+ years ago because of the constant variety and challenges it presents. As a CrossFit Kids coach and Mum of 2 boys, Merryn combines her background in Remedial Massage to program and teach CrossFit Kids classes in fun and creative ways while making sure good functional form and muscular health reign supreme. As Hive Active’s Behind the Scenes Coordinator, Merryn also has a hand in Hive Active’s website management, newsletters and social event organisation.

Chris (Knighty) Knight

CrossFit Level 1 Trainer and aspiring Chiropractor
Chris has always been an enthusiastic sportsman. He fell in love with the diversity of CrossFit six years ago, and enjoys the great sense of community and endless pursuit of fitness it provides. With a degree in Dietetics, and currently studying Chiropractics, Chris loves helping people achieve their fitness dreams in a healthy and safe way. Chris’ favourite workouts include anything involving lunges or gymnastics like Muscle Ups.

Kate Ballantyne

CrossFit Level 1 Trainer, Wellness Coach & Personal Trainer
Helping people unlock their full wellness potential is the aspect Kate loves most about being a CrossFit coach and Personal Trainer. Kate takes a wholistic approach to training, which involves eating nourishing, real food (most of the time) and engaging in functional exercise. As a CrossFit Coach, Kate likes the unpredictability and variety of WODs, as well as sharing in the sense of community that is an integral part of Hive Active. If you’re looking for real food recipe inspirational and need to borrow a recipe book – Kate is your “go to” resource.

Luke Hewitt

CrossFit Level 1 Trainer
A health and fitness fanatic since the age of 18, and current Dad of 2, Luke became hooked on CrossFit after watching a documentary back in 2010 called “Every Second Counts”. As a qualified CrossFit Level 1 Trainer, Luke’s coaching style draws on not just his certifications but also personal growth and experience gained under the direction of sporting and CrossFit coaches, as well as gym owners. Luke loves seeing people achieve their goals; whether it be losing weight, making a heavy lift or learning a new skill.

Bradley Mattioli

CrossFit Level 1 Trainer & CrossFit Gymnastics Coach
Bradley’s love of CrossFit started with his enthusiasm for all things sport during his youth and teenage years including soccer, rugby and water skiing. It progressed into Basketball, where he competed up to a state level and found that while not being the tallest, strongest or most athletic on the court, that if he put in the hard work he could succeed; not just as a player but also as a now National basketball referee. Lucky for us, Bradley also applies this philosophy to CrossFit (which he transitioned across to in 2017) and helping individuals find their health and fitness path so they can focus and attack life to the fullest.
